It’s officially festival season!

This month’s lineup includes everything from Wimbledon watch parties and food festivals to musical meditation and freshwater swimming – plus plenty of opportunities to escape the heatwave (we promise, sometimes there’s air-conditioning).

Here’s our pick of the best things to do in London this month 🍦 ☀️

🎪 CULTURAL SPOTLIGHT: The Summer Fête

Pronounced “fate”, there’s no British summer without a countryside fête. These outdoor community festivals take place on village greens, school fields, and church grounds across the country, often raising money for local charities.

Don’t expect a perfectly polished event, though. In fact, the real charm of a fête is that they are, well, a bit rubbish.

Rather, fêtes are special because of their community atmosphere, nostalgia, and British eccentricity – think cream teas, homemade cakes, garden gnomes, Morris dancing, fancy dress and dog shows, all in one bunting-lined field. Whether you’re browsing the bric-a-brac stall for hidden treasures or guessing the weight of a fruit cake, it’s always strange, charming, and a lot of fun.

This July, you don’t need to leave London to experience a traditional fête – just head to Soho Village Fête on July 19th.
